I was rereading Wheel Of Time and one thing I love is that you don’t get Mat’s point of view until the third book. I mean the first two books you watch Mat say all the wrong things and be a complete idiot and you’re like “What is this guy doing?!”, and then you get to the Dragon Reborn and you’re like “Oh, that’s what goes on in his head” and you still think he’s an idiot, but now you experience the comedic genius that he is

Mat's ambition is to live happily as 'Just Some Guy', or be a 'THOT'. So it's funny when ne'er-do-wells attempt to manipulate him by offering power and glory, it's like they've rolled a 1 on Persuasion.

Mat would love to be a fun secondary character you met in a pub on your own heroes journey— the specifics of which you kept far from him. I don't think I've read a protagonist in a novel who hates being a main character so much. He's pretty singular.
